Music wont add properly!
« on: September 15, 2014, 10:30:11 AM »
Ok so i got a Sansa Clip Zip a few weeks ago as well as 64gb SDXC

I did some research and most people said that SDXC cards could be used as long as its formatted to fat32

So i installed Rockbox on to clip zip, put in the card and formatted it to fat32 (Full format at that)

The problem comes when I try to add music onto the card, I've tried various methods from drag and drop to syncing it with Music Bee, normally i can get about 10GB or so onto the card with it successfully turning on/off and the database working properly. but when i try to  put my entire library onto it (56GB) half of the folder and files wont appear on either windows explorer or the player itself. If i try turning it off and on again it goes to scanning disk and will stay on that screen until it runs out of power.

After this i just take the card out, reformat it and try again with a different method but it always has the same result.

I need help, its no the SD card since i've used a few different ones of the same type with the same results. Im not sure its the player because it works fine if i add music to its internal storage (4GB)

Help please!

Where did you get the card?  Are you sure its real?  Vanishing files sounds like a fake card.

My Sandisk Ultra doesn't have any shiny stickers on the back :)

If i were you i would check the card with the h2testw just to be sure.

Since you were able to copy 64 GB to the card using that software without a problem, I'm guessing you used a USB SD reader?  Maybe you could try adding files with that instead of rockbox USB mode.  If it still fails after that, I don't think there is anything else you can try other than getting a different card.

These are definitely genuine cards, i see no reason why they should work.

What's the usual procedure for putting music onto an external SD

Usually you can just drag and drop, but if there is some problem with the sd storage, using a card reader might work around it.  If it doesn't, you're out of luck.

Would the directory look like:
Removable storage (drive letter)/Music/(Artists)

Does the clip zip need the /music/ to recognise the files or can it simply be

Removable storage (drive letter)/(Artists)

Rockbox doesn't care at all how you want to organise your files.

Ok
It almost seem likes the problem comes when i try to insert the SD back into the player and it takes forever to finish "scanning disk", so long that it actually runs out of power, and on the few occasions that it does is when the disappearing files start to occur.

Most likely the SD card deadlocks crashing the player.

What does that mean? Is it fixable
