Sansa Clip Zip - Off-white - Broken hardware?
« on: September 11, 2014, 06:06:08 AM »
Hello!

I hope this is the correct sub-forum. I know this is perhaps not the place to ask about a potential hardware issue that may be unrelated to Rockbox but I figure you guys will be better at answering the question. Certainly more so than the Sansa forums... Where I'm using Rockbox screenshots to try and produce white!

I recently purchased a Sansa Clip Zip. I'd spent ages - before it had arrived - making a theme in the simulator (excellent!). Now that it's arrived it does not look 'right' and I've released this is because the whites are not looking very white at all... In fact, they look rather blue!

I've put some photos below - Can you please take a look and tell me if this is correct? Is the colour profile of this device really so terrible? Or is this a defective unit? I will return the unit for replacement if necessary but if this is 'just how it is' while disappointed I understand and realise no replacement will fix the issue.

[Links also provided as the forum seems to make the images smaller?]

All colours set to max - expected white.

This is a white bar on black text.

Note that this is with maximum brightness. The photos do not appear as bad (read: blue) as the screen does in person... So, perhaps the question is - Should white look like a bright white or is it normal for it to be slightly bluey?

Additionally - a brief side question - I notice the sceen 'bleeds' a bit too... Also normal? Perhaps these are just very poor quality displays!

Thank you! :)

That's definitely NOT normal, nor the blue color nor the light bleed. Here are a couple pics of my Zip so that you can see:

White is white, a bit yellow/brown at most and, in my case, only with very low brightness levels.

There's pretty much no light bleed, at least not in a way to make the Zip look like a backlit watch.
