13 years was a long run and the ipod video 5.5 (with a toshiba 240gb zif drive) is still the best of ALL time for me . Best audiophile sound, great battery life, great interface, easy to open and mod/replace parts.  Im not a big fan of the 6g and 7g ipods but I know some people are - to each their own.  Only good thing about the 6 and 7 were the aluminum cover and radio (update it has no radio-sorry).
also no more new devices with a 30 pin dock connector now.

I don't think either the 6, 6.5, or 7 has radio.
Though the anodized aluminum is nice.

Also remember that just because they've stopped selling it, that doesn't mean you can't use them. ;)

Yep you are right about the radio. I thought it did have it but it turns out its only with a special add on plug.

That is true of all the supported iPod targets.

I believe only a couple of Nano variants (4, 5 and 6 I believe), and iPod Touch variants have native FM capabilities.

Guys I'm wondering if you can help. I'm a long time admirer of RockBox and also have the 5.5 gen ipod with the 240gb drive from years back with Rockbox installed on it. It's been a long time since I've logged in here but my friend has a 160gb Classic iPod (6 gen?) and I was hoping I'd be able to put Rockbox on it, but it says it's unusable, but I thought I remembered reading that it was actually usable, it just didn't have every feature ironed out?

All she needs it for is music. I don't want to put it on for her if it's going to be unstable and buggy, but if she can get play her music care free and not have any hiccups, then I'd put it on for her. She's been using the Apple system on it of course since she's owned it, which is years and uses it all the time. I want to make it better, not worse :)

Is this a possibility? I'm guessing development has pretty much ceased and there will never likely be a proper release for the Classic, so just wondering is there any hope of achieving the above at the current stage?

Development has not ceased, and is in fact very active.
However, the "unusable" state will likely persist until dual-boot is working, and there is a Rockbox bootloader.

The Nano 1G does not have a radio,  and references to it in the manual should be deleted.  Where is the proper place in these forums to report that error?

Thanks.

I think you misunderstood the post Saint is replying to.  The Nano 1G does in fact have a radio accessory.

Mine never did.

This site says the 5G was the first Nano to have it.

That link doesn't work, but if it did say that, its probably just wrong.  Not like overstock.com is an authority on iPods.

FM functionality in the original firmware (and Rockbox where supported) is achieved via an optional FM tuner hardware attachment.

Side note: somewhat surprisingly, these are still fairly readily available in various online second hand and trade market places.
