[SOLVED] Problem with iriver H320 with SDXC

(1/2) > >>

Rodger99:
Hi.

My English is not the best. I hope you'll understand...

Till now I used a Toshiba 1.8"-HDD MK2431GAH (240GB) with a zif-adapter in a H320 with bootloader "r17607M-080522" and rockbox 3.11.2 without any problems.
Now I wanted to upgrade to SDXC 256GB because of the weight, batterylife, shock insensitivity and thickness (I ordered and used the bigger backplate of a H340 to get the 8mm Toshiba-HDD inside the body (housing, casing?))

For that I used a Delock ZIF-SD-Card-Converter 61707 and a PNY SDXC-Card with 256GB.
I formatted the SDXC-Card with FAT32 and standard sector-size (32K).
I put the SDXC in my PC-Cardreader and copied my music and rockbox on the card.
I started the H320 but in many folders there are - I don't know the correct English word for it - special characters (figure chaos?). In a few folders some songs were missing. A few songs didn't play. So I tried to change the sector-size to 4K and later to 8K (with additional software). In both variants it was better, but not accurate.
The bigger problem was that there was no connection with h320 and my computer via USB.
I tried with a Win7- and  a Win8.1-Computer. Both computers tried to load, but in the end nothing happens.
If the SDXC is in the PC-Cardreader there is no problem. All folders and files are absolutely correct.

The last try was an one to one-copy from the toshiba-hdd to the SDXC (with additional software too).
This was the best result with the least (fewest?) errors. But there is still no connection from H320 to PC.

So now I don't know what is responsible for the problem.
Is it the ZIF-SD-Card Converter (cause I used a SDXC but it was specified for SD only), is it a file-system (or sector-size)-thing, is it a problem with the SDXC-Card (as I said it works perfect in the cardreader), is there a problem with rockbox or with the H320-Hardware.
There are other ZIF-SD-Card-Converters on the market, but I don't the reason for the problem. So I don't know if I should buy another converter or another SDXC or whatever for further tests.

I even tried the latest rockbox-version but nothing changes.

Any idea what the problem is?

Thank you,
Rodger.

Based on the screenshot, it looks like your filesystem is corrupted (and yes, those are special characters).

It certainly looks like your SD adapter is having trouble talking to the system.  I believe on the H320, a hardware ATA to USB bridge is used for USB mode.  Perhaps your adapter doesn't completely implement (or correctly implement) whatever the adapter is expecting, which causes USB to fail?

Most likely it is (as you say) because of the SD adapter, though filesystem corruption is certainly a possibility.
Sorry, I misread the posting. Since the SD works fine with your computer, it is because of the SD adapter or Rockbox.

We've seen similar problems before and usually this are caused by sd<->ata converter not fully following the specs.
