nikkifm:
how do i install a devoplment build? and would love to test rockbox out back on my ipod classic kinda want to get my ipod back and running Thanks! or is emucore just the only thing i can install right now?

__builtin:
emCORE is the bootloader that loads Rockbox. You can install any version of Rockbox, although the latest dev build would be the best choice, as 3.13 is a bit old.

To install a development build, first boot the recovery image of Rockbox after installing emCORE and plug the iPod into your computer.
Then, download a zip for the appropriate device from http://build.rockbox.org/ and unzip the files to the root of the player.

Why are we pretending that there is any alternative...?

Yes, 3.13 is old...but, that's also completely and totally irrelevant, as there was never a release for this target.

No such version exists.

You quite literally have no choice on whether you want a development build or not.

Well...this is half right, but there's absolutely no reason to boot into the fallback image (I guess that's what you mean by recovery mode) in order to update Rockbox. That's just creating a further unnecessary step.

The fallback image is only relevant to this situation IFF the device cannot be mounted using the installed Rockbox binary.
