Novice needs help; Database scan hangs, large # of files

Can anyone help this Rockbox rookie novice Newbee? I have an iPod 5G.

It hangs on Building database and cannot find all tracks.
It's a little different if it stops on 2088, 7866 or whatever number depending on installation and copy of music files but always same # each time.

Is there a limitation of number of files in Rockbox or iPod 5G? I have a little more than 30.000 songs divided into 127 genres, 3674 artists and 2078 album.
I tried a complete uninstall & reinstall a couple of times and it didn't solve the problem. Both on an iPod installation and on an empty freshly formatted disk.
I have checked the disk for HW errors and bad sectors and also the and the file system for errors on my PC.

I have all music files in one directory called "music" structured as Artist\Album\.. and have also tried to xcopy all music files in there with *.mp3 to be sure not to get any junk such as pictures or films into the directories.
(All files could still be found in the Rockbox "files" option)
