Can I remove the slotradio promo on a Clip+
« on: January 12, 2011, 07:31:34 AM »
I recently bought a Clip+ and have installed Rockbox (3.7.1) on it.
Working a treat - my compliments to the Rockbox developers. :)

I have one minor issue that I hope someone might be able to advise about. The Clip+ comes pre-loaded with a slotradio promotion. I can't find any way to delete this - using the Original or Rockbox firmware, or when connected to a PC.  The actual file appears to be called clpp_data in the ##MUSIC## folder. But this folder is not visible in Windows Explorer, nor can Windows find a file with a name including clpp on the whole device.

It only bothers me because the Rockbox database indexes it (under the artist name "SanDisk"), and I'd prefer it wasn't there.

Any suggestions?

There is a way of showing hidden folders in Windows; a quick search on Google should reveal that for you.

Once you find it, you can create a 'database.ignore' file (without the single quotes!) in the folder, and Rockbox will ignore that entire folder when building the database.

Thanks for the comment about showing hidden folders in Explorer. I already know about that, and I have that option enabled. But still the data storage areas whose names start with '##' are not visible. Perhaps they are not actual folders in the file system?

(I just tried connecting the Clip+ to my daughter's Macbook just in case they showed up there, but still no luck).

So, anyone with any other ideas?

There are file copy/paste options in Rockbox. You could copy a database.ignore file into the folder from within Rockobx.

There's one in the .rockbox folder that you can copy. Check your player's manual for instructions on how to use the internal copy/paste functions.

Well, I finally managed to delete the slotradio promo. Started playing it in Rockbox via the Files menu and then used the context menu to delete it. After a database refresh the "SanDisk" artist has gone. Not sure why I hadn't figured this out before.

Crossing my fingers that next time I update the player and the Sansa OF refreshes its catalogue that it doesn't put it back!

(PS. still haven't found a way to show the ##MUSIC# folder in Windows or Mac)

IIRC it sets a weird volume flag that Windows ignores.  Theres probably an option to force it in Linux though.

The hidden Music folder is used by the OF in MMC mode, and can't be easily accessed in MSC mode.

In the OF, the recommendation is to connect via MMC, remove those files, and then go back to using MSC mode.

MMC is a type of flash card, do you mean MTP?

I apologize for bumping this very old thread, but would someone know how to force Linux to show the ##MUSIC# folder?

Thanks
