Clip Zip is toast? Recommendations for new one?
« on: July 25, 2014, 12:48:24 AM »
Okay, so I've had this thing for a month. Was booting Rockbox just fine. Then all of a sudden I noticed the audio kind of distorted toward the end of my workout. The next day the thing wouldn't boot. Weird because I just charged it. Plug it into my comp and it says no battery.

So the next day, it's charged up and suddenly it won't read the SD card. My fuze still reads it. Now, the thing won't boot if the SD card is in it.

The only thing I can think of is I sweat like a beast and this mp3 player isn't actually meant for being used for workouts -_-

Oh, also seems to not hold a charge at ALL now.

So any recommendations on a unit that doesn't self destruct if you sweat on it a little?

Same thing has happened to me on two Clip Zips. Too much sweat and suddenly it doesn't want to boot with an SD card. I usually just end up running them without an SD card once they get to that point. Sometimes after a week or two they will 'dry out' and magically work again.

The best alternative I have found is using a Clip+ with the silicone skins that are available on eBay.

Yeah, I can't even get it to hold a charge. Longest it stays on for is about 20 seconds.

*sigh* Clip+ with silicone case then? Or does anyone recommend something that actually works with Rockbox?

I'll let the boys in Rockbox's imaginary R&D department know that they have to start working on a software based conductive bodily fluid ingress protection mechanism right away.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

I mean...can you tell them to hurry up? I really need a sweatproof MP3 player with a display :p

I'm just going to buy another clip zip and get a silicone case for it. Hopefully that'll be enough. It seems like there are no new good mp3 players on the market. Everybody is using gigantic phones for the job.

I wish the Clip Sport was rock-boxable...
