Cowon D2 Install Step by Step
« on: July 24, 2014, 02:36:02 PM »
Downloaded the firmware from the Cowon Site.  Also upgraded to the same firmware on the Cowon (it did mess up in regards to the icons were missing in the "settings" menu).  Never the less, using Rockbox utility, it asked for the firmware to be located before install.  It ate 2 of the 3 firmware files from Cowon and didn't get the 3rd.  It did tell me it installed on my D2.  So, upon trying to start rockbox, the logo appears but says...." Rockbox bootloader.......file not found".

If someone could explain to me the process of.....

Manual Installation

Build or download the bootloader binary (bootloader-cowond2.bin)

Patch this into your original Cowon firmware using mktccboot
         ../tools/mktccboot path_to_firmware/1/D2N.bin bootloader-cowond2.bin D2N-patched.bin

Build or download the main Rockbox build (rockbox.zip)
A pre-built "bleeding edge" zip can be found here.

Unzip rockbox.zip to the root of either an SD card or the internal memory
If an SD card is inserted at power on, Rockbox will boot from that card and use it as the primary drive for storing
If there is no SD card inserted, Rockbox will boot from the internal memory, and it will not be possible to save

That means you installed the bootloader but not rockbox itself.  Download a copy of rockbox for your player and unzip it (see last paragraph of the text you quoted).

Awsome possum.  Love the EQ.  Maybe feel the need to donate since it's great stuff.  Thanks

P.S.
must you replaygain your tracks on your computer first for the replaygain feature to work on the cowon?
(run your entire library through replaygain, then put it on your music player)?

thanks again dude

Yes, replaygain is useless without replaygain tags.
