H340 Install

(1/1)

Flack:
Guys been out of the loop for a few years now and my IHP 140 died, I was running Rockbox 6 on it and was very stable ....  I have now just bought a a H340 with stock firmware loaded on it and was wondering if its still ok to install Rockbox on this model using the auto install utility as I don't want to brick it..

Is there any problems with this method, I have read many horror stories on here about bricking them but I have never had a problem using the rockbox firmware in the past..

I don't know where you read those "horror stories". Installation is safe as long as you use the official tools and follow the instructions. People "bricking" their players usually failed to follow the instructions, in most cases those players weren't actually bricked but in some kind of recovery mode (the h100 / h300 doesn't have this though) and people immediately started to call that brick (which is wrong), and some people had failing hardware (which seems to happen a bit more often with some Sandisk players). Obviously there is a small risk involved, but if you're not trying to break things this is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the replies guys I bit the bullet and and loaded Rockbox on and all is well, I used it many years ago when it first came out on my IHP 140 and with having no problems at all with my player you forget how to install it. But I read the install page and followed the screen with the utility and I am impressed  with the quality of the screens layout, just installed a new theme.
