Klipsch Image s4 equalizer preset
« on: June 19, 2014, 05:24:03 PM »
Hi

I recently bought a pair of Klipsch Image s4, and got quite disappointed at the first listening (sooo much bass !).
Then I played with the equalizer for a while and the earphones turned out to be just fine :)

Here's my preset I'd like to share :
Code: [Select]
eq enabled: on
eq precut: 0
eq low shelf filter: 80, 10, -100
eq peak filter 1: 150, 15, -80
eq peak filter 2: 1000, 10, 0
eq peak filter 3: 2000, 10, 0
eq peak filter 4: 6000, 30, -20
eq peak filter 5: 6000, 30, -20
eq peak filter 6: 8000, 15, 25
eq peak filter 7: 8000, 15, 25
eq peak filter 8: 14000, 6, 0
eq high shelf filter: 14000, 6, 0

It's based on another one I found here :
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55102
(the one from Timar, at the bottom of the page)

Is there any other S4 owners around here ?
What do you think of this preset, and how does yours look like ?

Cheers

Change:

Code: [Select]
eq peak filter 4: 6000, 30, -20
eq peak filter 5: 6000, 30, -20

to

Code: [Select]
eq peak filter 4: 6000, 30, -40

Which does the same thing but with half the rounding error and battery drain.  Likewise filters 7 and 8 are also redundant.

Oh you're right, it's totally redundant !
It's because the preset it's based on uses only 5 bands (I guess it comes from an older version of RB).

This leads me to a question : are all the bands mandatory ? Can I make a preset with, say, 6 bands ?
Maybe the low and high shelf filters are mandatory ?
Maybe I should RTFM ?  ;D

Thank you !

None of them are mandatory, and you should use the fewest possible bands to achieve the result you want.

I updated the manual to make this more clear.

Sorry, completely misread that.  8 is disabled (gain = 0) and so not redundant.  7 is though.

Hi

Thank you saratoga for your help !

Here is my corrected preset (and I also lowered the high frequencies a bit, it sounded quite uncomfortable on some voices) :
Code: [Select]
eq enabled: on
eq precut: 0
eq low shelf filter: 80, 10, -100
eq peak filter 1: 150, 15, -80
eq peak filter 2: 1000, 10, 0
eq peak filter 3: 2000, 10, 0
eq peak filter 4: 4000, 30, 0
eq peak filter 5: 6000, 30, -20
eq peak filter 6: 8000, 15, 20
eq peak filter 7: 9000, 15, 0
eq peak filter 8: 10000, 10, -10
eq high shelf filter: 14000, 5, -20

Sounds pretty good to me.

I know this will sound like I'm being a smartass but have you tried turning the EQ off then listening? I have the same S4's and I find treb one tick up or flat and bass one tick up sounds the best to me.
