Can't build Database on iPod Classic (120gb)

Hi. I'm having some trouble with rockbox on my old iPod classic (120gb) model. (Its a bit on the dodgy side now, as its had a lot of use, but no major issues on the official or rockbox firmware, (some button lockup problems, and battery drain issues))

For the most part, the software works great. I can use the file browser and play files fine. (copying stuff over is fine, playing around with the settings has been fine)

The trouble is in the database function.
Whenever I try to create the database on it, it progresses for a while but suddenly crashes and corrupts the rockbox installation and forces the device into a bootloop.
(Its recoverable though, since I've recovered it multiple times with the built-in recovery, but no builds seem to fix this problem I have)

Now I'm going to try creating a log and look at my MP3 tags, but these same files worked fine on the official firmware, so I'm not sure whats causing the problem, nor how to fix it.
I was just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue in the 120gb iPod Classic and if they ever found a good fix for it.

(Hopefully the Sansa Zip Clip I ordered will come tomorrow and will be good to go, and hopefully be a bit more reliable in the long-term, but still, I'd like to see if I could at least get the old iPod to successfully sort out its database)

Yeah. Just tried repairing all the MP3s with mp3val, and i don't think the database issue has to do with the Mp3's themselves.

It always seems to get to around 5000 Mp3s then resets into a bootloop.

Gah! I almost had it this time.

I scrubbed all the album art off my MP3s using MP3tag and got to around 13000 tracks  instead of 5000 odd and crashed  into a bootloop again...
Funny thing I noticed is that when I recover, and delete the database to get it working again, is that the device suddenly states 0% battery unless plugged in via USB (then it shoots up rapidly), and resets itself for a while.

Changed some tags in one album (the last one on the log file) and reinitialised database while plugged into USB.
(By holding menu then plugging in the iPod)

That seems to have fixed the issue, and the database has been made.

It rather sounds like what is happening is that you are depleting the battery during the scan, the device almost certainly won't actually be charging in this state (with constant disk access). The battery may also be near the end of its useful life, componding the issue.

I should hope that this iPod isn't the singular point of storage for your collection, it may be wiser to edit the metadata in the backup I hope you have, and then export it to the iPod after the fact. Especially so due to the fact that the device crashing during a write operation almost certainly means filesystem corruption is present on the device storage volume.

Yeah, I figured that might be a possible cause.

Not to worry. I have all the music backed up on an external drive.

(I did rockbox to the iPod in the first place because I wanted to update its library (which I'd have to do manually since it wasn't synced on my PC (it was a gift from a friend, since he bought a new 160gb one, and was like "dude. Do you want this?") but didn't want to deal with iTunes anymore)

Once the Zip Clip arrives. I'll put the music from my drive onto there, and see if any issues occur. Then I'll edit the originals.
