HEADER
=================
If you reply to this post, please consider doing it this way, aiming to keep a full up-to-date list & avoid having to

browse through each & every post to gather information

1- you want to UPDATE(s) the list
> please read COMMENTS ABOVE before
> look for the latest UP-TO-DATE post => copy ALL (HEADER, COMMENTS ABOVE, LIST, COMMENTS BELOW) => paste ALL in your

reply => update the list => post

2- if your update is not an UPGRADE to the lastest update in the list
> please read COMMENTS ABOVE/UPGRADE
> please copy the HEADER (without the list) => paste it on top of your post => post below it as you like

3- If your reply is about anything but update
> please copy the HEADER => paste it on top of your post => post below it as you like

COMMENTS ABOVE

For (me  ::) & all those) who are using memory cards in  target port classified as Stable or Unstable, it would be useful to gather in a single list which card(s) we are/have been using with no problem.
Ultimately what we want to see is the biggest (when affordable) memory card rockboxing in our players !!

Note : for those who plan to get a new player, Port/Target/Platform details can be found on rockbox.org but can be confusing as to wether or not a port is using memory card. The list will help then, otherwise use a search engine.
(reference link http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/TargetStatus)

---------
> 1- Ports with a memory card slot, alphabetical list (feel free to update) :
iAudio Cowon D2 ; Sandisk Sansa Fuze/Clip range ; Samsung YP-R0 ;
---------
> 2- Ports without a slot = EXPERT USER hacked Hard_Drive/Flash_memory ports (HD/Flash replaced with CF or ?), my guess alphabetical list (feel free to update) :
iAudio Mxx's/X5 ; iPod 1st~4th gen/color/video ; iRiver H10's/H1xx's/H3xx's ;

There might be a need for a CF adaptor list as well...
---------
> 3- Android smartphones/tablets with a slot
The main issue for android users is to find a compatible rockbox version (not a memory card). That depends on screen resolution.
(reference link http://rasher.dk/rockbox/android/)
I have made a separate post for a list of compatible <Android devices> vs <Screen Resolution> here
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,48309.0.html
---------
!! UPGRADE STATUS !!
---------
For each single player (port/target/platform)
We can assume that when a type_+_size memory card has been updated to a new MAXIMUM_size, most likely every size below should be compatible with this single player.
Therefore on top of the latest post (reply) the list of players compatible with each single type_+_MAXIMUM_size should be updated.
That means if you want to report compatibility of a <single player> vs <type_+_size card> AND the size is inferior to the MAXIMUM previously reported for your single_player, DON'T PUT IT IN THE LIST, post a reply as in HEADER/2-
Each update to the list should mention specifications based on previous entries
> Bear in mind :
>> available memory card range change quickly
>> a single (specifications, source factory, batch) card can PROBABLY be sold under many different brands/names
>> a single brand+name card can PROBABLY match many different single cards
>>> therefore specifications in the list will be split in two = reference/other

Each entry will match a sublist and follow this structure
---------
>reference specs
>> size =
>> speed = upto
>> Players compatible upto & presumably inferior to this size
For each player, only if necessary, specify reformatting & new format
>>> =
>other specs (optionnal)
>> brand =
>> name =
>> produced in ~
---------

ALL LIST & SUB sorted by alphabet (A~Z) & numbers (decreasing)

The enthusiasm is appreciated, but I am unsure if it would be possible to create a harder to follow, or more confusing table of information if one tried.

I'm sorry, I really am, I can see this took a lot of effort.

Users essentially need to know these things:

- SD/SDHC/SDXC is electrically identical.
- On devices where we run as a firmware replacement, the limitations of the original firmware do not matter at all.
- On devices where we run as a firmware replacement, the card *MUST* be formatted as FAT32
- On hosted platforms (Android, et al) none of this matters and anything the host can accept is fine.

And...that's about it.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

You do know that flash card manufacturers change internals often without changing model numbers, right?

Much ado about nothing...

... and yet : my latest Android smartphone (hosted platform) was delivered with a manual saying : SDHC up to 32Gb. I found the same confusing/misleading specs through internet searches.

However dumb I may be when it relates to understanding geek science, I was almost sure formatting any size of SDHC into FAT32 would make it compatible, so I bought a 64Gb microSD and... it worked.

It seems hard to believe for geeks but  we human monkeys normally trust brand manuals, until they are prooved wrong.

I don't found an answer by using google. Can SDHC host read a SDXC version 4.0? I read on Russian version of Wiki that only SDXC version 3.01 supports legacy SDHC host, but SDXC version 4.00 doesn't supports a SDHC host. But there are no similar information on English version of Wiki. I don't mean about file system differences, I know that I should format SDXC to fat32.

It used to say that on the English page as well, so it's probably just a translation of that information. No SDXC 4.0 devices existed when that text was written, and it didn't seem like whoever added that had actually read the spec either. I've been assuming it was incorrect speculation and have yet to be proven wrong. :)

A specification and description about SDHC and SDXC compatibly is really confused because officially SDXC just is not supported in SDHC host devices and no way to use SDXC in SDHC host devices. But really in unofficial way:
1) SDHC supports up to 2 TB (in official specification only 32 GB because of limitation of internal formatting tools in Microsoft Windows).
2) The main purpose to rename SDHC to SDXC is a limitation of Microsoft Windows that prevents formatting to FAT32 by using internal tools if capacity of memory is more than 32 GB.
