Setting background color.
« on: May 24, 2014, 08:23:24 PM »
I have Rock Box for the Fuze+.

After I change a setting to the background color, how do I save my setting?  I did it once, but can't figure out how to do it again.  I've tried both holding and swiping the play button, as well as the right arrow.

I believe you want "Select".

Our fine manual will help you with this.

Also, while it would technically be possible, gestures such as swiping aren't implemented to the best of my knowledge.

Thank you!  I didn't know the middle button actually acted as a select.

Ok, this makes navigating both Rock Box, and the original firmware, better.

Also, back to the OP, after changing the settings, I realized that "background color" wasn't actually what I wanted to do.  How can I change that gray-ish wallpaper?

Ok, I just went to Theme Settings-->Clear Backdrop, and it made it all black.

Ok, looking at the manual, I see I can set the back drop by placing a .bmp in the /.rockbox/backdrops directory.

What I want to do is find a backdrop that will prevent my reflection from reflecting when I look at it.  I guess I have to find a .bmp then that won't reflect?

Is there a black .bmp that you think can achieve this?

I'm not sure what you mean, but usually a lighter background makes reflections harder to notice.

Ok, this makes navigating both Rock Box, and the original firmware, better.

Actually, this doesn't affect the original firmware at all to my knowledge.
Rockbox splits the touchpad into a 9x9 grid (but it could use any number of arbitrarily sized segments, or even absolute point precision tracking), whereas I believe the original firmware uses only the 4 marked quadrants.

And...before anyone says it, yes, I'm well aware that its non obvious but we have a history of using navigation and hardware buttons in a manner that best suits Rockbox uniformly across platforms, rather than replicating the way it may work in the original firmware. :)

Also, as saratoga suggests, there isn't really a global fix for the issue you describe, light-to-white backgrounds will certainly lessen this effect in most cases, but come with their own downsides.
