installing the bootloader...Error reading partition table - possibly not an Ipod
saratoga:
Rockbox does run on the 6g although the port is not as stable as the 5g.

Rockbox does indeed run on the iPod Classic (6/6.5/7G), however, it is classed as "unusable", and we offer no means of installation (and technically shouldn't offer any support either, but we are somewhat relaxed about this).
The bottom line is, yes, you can install Rockbox on your iPod Classic, but no, you cannot do it with our tool set.
You may follow the instructions offered by the freemyipod team, but so keep in mind that although the projects share members and developers, the two projects are entirely separate and that rockbox.org will offer no direct support pertaining to emCORE directly or the installation thereof.
The link above will walk you through installing emCORE on your device through one of 4 possible installation routes, none of which, being honest, are going to be trivial for a novice.
I myself frequent the support channels of both development teams and would be happy to assist you via freemyipod's IRC support channel (I'm in NZDST, if it helps {GMT+13}) should you require it.
I guess it is worth noting that Rockbox Utility isn't entirely useless to you, but it isn't immediately obvious to a new users that Rockbox Utility can only be used to *update* an *existing* installation on this particular device. Due to the complicated installation method, Rockbox Utility is currently unable to perform the installation itself.
A few other points worth noting are:
- Rockbox on the iPod Classic has *no* dual-boot support. You *will* lose the ability to boot the original firmware.
- Rockbox has no recording support on this device.
- Rockbox does not support the iPod Accessory Protocol on this device, so it is extremely likely that all but the most basic of iPod accessories will cease to function.
- Rockbox on this device is largely usable, but it is *not* "stable". Don't store any data on it that you're not prepared to lose or don't have backed up elsewhere. This would almost certainly end in tears were you to rely on the storage as an archival system.
- USB is largely unusable on some (most?) Windows based machines in current binaries. Because of this, the emCORE loader offers an embedded fallback image of a known good Rockbox binary to facilitate USB transfer (and in as yet unreleased versions of emCORE a dedicated 'Disk Mode' emCORE application).
- Some car audio head units and all Apple Macintosh computers are absolutely brain dead and flatly refuse to talk to the iPod as generic removable storage, however we can work around this if necessary.
Please take these points into consideration before deciding if Rockbox on this device is right for you, but do remember that installation is 99.99% safe (even an installation that failed terribly is 100% recoverable if the provided tool set is used as intended).
I will not make the claim that it is guaranteed to not damage the hardware at all, but I can state that this has not happened once yet, over the course of several years and many thousands of installations.
If you decide to change your mind, and that Rockbox is not for you, restoring the device is as easy as forcing DFU mode (you'll know what this is shortly, if you decide to proceed with the install) and pointing iTunes at the device and allowing it to restore the firmware.

artmindes:
Thank you for the useful information and offering your help. This is great of you!
Eventually I decided to get the repair service replace the motherboard with the original 5G as they should do in the first place. It should be better solution for me - technically easy and without any limits on how the rockbox will work.
Thanks a lot again!
