Suddenly no sound in Sansa e200R.
« on: May 13, 2014, 05:00:37 AM »
Hi all,

Rockbox had been acting weird lately and today I got absolutely no sound output in Rockbox. Last time this happened, charging it up to max fixed the issue, but today it won't work. Booting up in the regular firmware allows sound to work, but for some reason it doesn't work in Rockbox now.

Tried both the 3.13 build and the latest dev build to no avail. Using latest bootloader.

Halp?

Did some googling around and found an issue with the sansa e200 models where the headphone jack becomes loose and no sound comes out. So I tore it apart, re-soldered the connectors, and nothing. Still get audio in the main firmware, but no audio out of rockbox.

So I'm pretty sure it's a software issue. I guess I need a really old version of Rockbox for the e200. I never had problems on older software (years old). Only since updating it in February-ish have I been having issues. Latest version doesn't work and neither does the dev build.

Edit: Nope, old versions don't work. Tried 3.9 to no avail. I get just odd static over my headphones.

Probably a burned out part in the DAC.  You could try to route around whatever is broken by reverse engineering how the OF configures the DAC since that apparently still works, but it might be easier to upgrade to a newer player.

I would love to get myself another Sansa Fuze, as that's what is in my car, but for some reason they're still going for ridiculous amounts. I have a 32gb microsd just itching to be put into this thing. I need physical buttons and the Fuze+ is a hunk of garbage.

I'm not sure what the "DAC" is, but it's likely above my level of technical knowledge to do what you suggest. The OF on this thing doesn't recognize FLAC, which is the majority of my music. Also not seeing my SD card for some reason.

No FLAC or SDHC support in the OF.  The e200 is really old.

Yeahh. Only reason I was still using it was that it's really small, and rockbox allows SDHC, which made it so I could boost the storage another 32gb.

Rockbox doesn't support SDXC does it?

Edit: Wow, I guess it does! My fuze is gonna last forever!

Yeah, SDXC is the same as SDHC, just with a different file format.  So reformatted FAT32 SDXC cards should work up to 2TB I believe.
