How to proceed...
(1/1)
mcc01:
Hi,
(I am using Linux for all this...)
before makeing things even more worst...
Due to several crashes of rockbox the internal FAT filesystem
of my Sansa Clip ZIP is no longer consistent.
I checked it with fsck and it repaired "something".
Since I have still crashes of rockbox (own builds),
I think, that the whole internal SD needs to be reinitialized.
But how should I proceed?
I this correct:
Deinstall rockbox
Use mkfs.fat to created a new filesystem on the INTERNAL flash (is /this/ allowed???)
Reboot the Sansa
Reinstall rockbox?
What is the correct way to cope with filessystem problems
of the INTERNAL flash???
Best regards,
mcc

Using your operating system's check disk utility is sufficient.

... YESNO...
sometimes -- if fsck finds cluster/sectors(or what wording is the correct one here...;)
which, seems to be allocated but cannot be assigned to a certain file, it creates
"new files" which have the same value as what you can find on filesystems
of UNIX systems in the folder "lost+found" (after a crash/powerfail etc).
But this data are missing somewhere else.
From a logical point of view, the filesystem may be ok again...
But the data are not in most cases.
Finding the file/s which are corrupted by that process is hard...
More efficient it is to throw away ALL data, reinitialize the filesystem
and copy back the data from a source, which is known to be valid.
BUT: Am I allowed to do so?
AND: What to do, if fsck asks for help?
I am not /THAT/ a FAT hacker... ;)
Best regards,
mcc
