Sansa Clip + and USB issues
krisbee:
Hope this wasn't covered before, I did a search :)
When using rockbox (3.13) on my sansa clip + (32GB external, 4gb internal) the usb connection usually fails 50% of the time, requiring a reboot (which is quick) and trying again. I usually have to try several times, and other times the unit will just lock. Random on when it does and doesn't work.
Sansa Firmware works fine, but because of the 32gb, it takes 5 minutes of Refreshing Your Media until it is usable.
Is there a dev build that addresses this, am I doing something wrong?
Any advice appreciated!

i'm guessing you are using Win7 or Win8 or Win8.1
When I was still on Win8, i usually had to plug the Sansa clip+ on the same USB port where the drivers was installed at first. Plugging it elsewhere would fail to recognize the unit..
After upgrading to Win8.1 everything went haywire and the device isn't properly recognized. Usually it would hang parts of the OS.. Explorer, devman, etc.. until it mounts 2 x removable drives which are not accessible. After unplugging the Sansa most times it will be stuck on the USB/Power charging mode. You'll have to press the power for 10sec to shutdown.
At first I thought the SANSA is screwed but I thought I'd try it on a WinXP laptop.. Boom everything is back to normal. No hangups, flashdrive is fully mounted and accessible...
So its most likely a drivers issue with Win8.x

I don't have a Clip+, but I have had similar issues with a Fuze+, a Fuze v2, and a Clip Zip. So, for what it is worth:
I have retired the Fuze+ because even Rockbox cannot save that pile of krap.
The other two seem to be working now, but whether it is because I am on Win7 instead of XP, or because of later builds of Rockbox, I don't know.
When I did have the problem though, there were tricks to make it work.
1. With both devices, they had to be already Powered ON, before plugging into a cable or port.
2. The Fuze V2 and the Fuze+ had to be left on the HOME screen, before plugging in.
3. The Clip Zip had to be on the WPS (while playing screen), before plugging in.
Otherwise, on the Fuze, I would get an "Invalid Device Error" in XP. And on the Fuze+, it would not see my sdhc card.
So for whatever device, it may be working better on -7 than XP, but the other thing I did awhile back was to install the latest Development Build for that specific device, as opposed to using the latest Release build. That has been my normal mode lately. If stuff screws up, you can always revert to the Release one.

Will give that a try, for sure. Thanks so much for the help!
