Slightly OffTopic: Replacement Battery for Sansa Clip ZIP: BAK 303038 3.7V 300mA
« on: April 24, 2014, 02:09:59 PM »
Hi,

on the net I found a source for a LiPo battery, which seems
at least very similiar to what is in the Sansa Clip ZIP.

Currently th eonly diffence I found is:
The battery of the Sansa Clip ZIP has three wires, the one I found
on the net has two.

As it seems, these kind of batteries has a little PCB, which protects
the LiPo itslef from being overcharged or underdischarged.

My question is:
Is it possible/thinkable/expectable (insert more here), that this missing
thir wire is simply not soldered by to the PCB but the PCB is already
capable to deliver this third signal if connected?
Or am I totally on the wrong way?
Does anyone already know of a source for a replacement battery with three
wires?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Best regards,
mcc

Its possible, but I would not count on it.

If you want a replacement battery, its probably easiest to just buy another player and take the battery out of it.  The cost is very low.

Hi Saratoga,

thanks for your reply.

What does "low' mean. Here (europe) you pay for a 4GB model 40EUR
from a reliable seller.
At least for me this is not "low" for just a replacement battery, which
normally costs under 10 EUR.
Do you better (cheaper) sources for replacement batteries?

Best regards,

The third cable is for thermistor which allows to monitor battery temperature. It is probably missing on the battery of question.

A dummy resistor will work, but it also defeats the thermal protection on the battery.  For a very small battery this is probably not a big deal, but its slightly less safe then getting a proper battery.

I wouldn't be worried too much. H100 battery is MUCH bigger and still without thermistor.

Hi,

very informative. I tend to be a little less worried about the
battery problem. I HATE to replace electronic helpers only
for the reason, that battery can no longer be charged. It
is a waste of effort and recources and not at least emotions.
Will Rockbox run on the next Sansa? I dont know...
Ok.
Here is what I found after heavy googling:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-7V-300mAh-303038-Lithium-Polymer-Rechargeable-Battery-Li-Po-For-GPS-NAV-Mp3-/181164146077?pt=US_Rechargeable_Batteries&hash=item2a2e397d9d
This is for informational porposes for those, who
are in search of the holy grail..sorry, wrong movie...I mean...a
spare battery (why do all people say "battery"...it is an accumulator... ;).
There may be other and may be there is a total identical one
in one of those unopened propietary plasic housings of
zillions of diffent identical batteries? Who knows.
I hope, one will find a better one...

Best regards,
mcc
