Sansa Clip Zip: Current Firmware (backup) and Rockbox

(1/1)

mcc01:
Hi,

on my Sansa Clip Zip is firmware 01.01.21P (if I recognozed it correctly) installed.
If I correctly remember, the current stable rockbox uses 01.01.20 to work
with.
And ... sorry I am new to rockbox ... if understand the process correctly, when
a Sansa Clip ZIP will be rockboxyfied, the patched 01.01.20 gets installed, the
bootloader is replaced, and rockbox is installed.

Is there any way to backup the whole "image" (wording???) of the flash of
the Clip ZIP in its untouched state to harddisk somehow "low level" so that
it is possible to recreate the original state of the player byte-by-byte on
a comparable "low level"-way.
I am on linux...so due to the availability of /dev/* and its devices.... ;)

Thanks for any help in advance!
Best regards,
mcc

You can copy the files off by drag and drop.  This is unnecessary though, as the device will recreate its file system exactly if you reformat it.
