Before starting to play with rockbox and its sourcecode
« on: April 12, 2014, 01:29:02 PM »
Hi,

I plan to rockboxify a Sansa player, which I will hold in my hands soon.
For ROCKbox there is a dual boot feature, which either boots rockbox
or the original FW.
While modifying the source, there may be situation, where a local
rockbox build isn't bugfree (tm) and one runs into trouble using it.
On the other hand: Without using...there is no debugging.
Is there a way to either test the build outside the player or to flash
the build onto external flash (scard) to not to stress the internal
flash more than needed and use a "triple boot": Either boot
ROCKbox stable or the Sansa FW or the local ROCKbox build?

Another question: Suppose I will introduce a bug into my build of ROCKbox
and this bug crashes ROCKbox right in the startup phase (so the
bootloader did its work and the control flow is already given to that build
of ROCKbox...what happens then? Bricked?

Thank you very much for any help in advance!
Best regards,
mcc

You can always use the stock firmware or bootloader USB.

Edit:  There is also a device simulator, but it only simulates the application parts of rockbox, none of the hardware.
