Sansa Clip+: Issues Only with Micro SD Card
(1/1)
keanex:
Hello there, sorry if this is the incorrect forum. If so please move it to the appropriate place and accept my apology!
So I finally got my Sansa Clip+ up and running with Rockbox. I've had absolutely no issues with it until I bought a Micro SD card. The issues I'm having are:
- Occasional freezing when connected through USB. This happens generally during disconnect, the screen will freeze on the USB screen despite being removed. I am ejecting the device through Windows first.
- Occasional loss of connection when transferring data to the Micro SD card. The Clip+ or the micro SD card disappear from the Windows device list. This will then lead to the problem described above.
- Some items freeze when trying to be deleted. I am trying to delete an empty folder and the Clip+ freezes. I connected the Clip+ through USB to delete it through Windows and after a long time of "discovering" the folder it said that it was no longer there. It's there in Windows and the Clip+ still though.
I've formatted the card to FAT32 and it's not write protected. The card is a generic 64GB Class 10 Micro SD card from Samsung. I'm guessing that it's a faulty card, or just a crappy card. Under this assumption I have read that this card is reliable. Can anyone else vouch for it, assuming that the problem is certainly my card.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I should note that the Micro SD card will play music.

The daily builds have fixed some of the USB issues.
But I recommend just using a USB card reader for the MicroSD card.
They are MUCH MUCH FASTER, and also pretty darn cheap.
My favorite right now is the Elago one here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002K7EJDK which was only $9, supports 128GB cards, and is really really fast. And _ridiculously_ tiny. (the card inserts backwards into the USB plug - bizarre).

Why use a card reader when you can simply mount under the original firmware?
We control no code there. It should work as intended.

Am I correct in understanding that transferring data over USB to a microSD card with Rockbox is known to have issues? If so thanks for the recommendation to transfer the songs through a card reader. I have one so I'll give it a try!

Huh?
Using a card reader is WAY better than using OF, for 3 reasons:
1) Booting into OF and back to RB takes longer than popping out the card etc.
2) Card readers are WAY WAY FASTER (like, 10-100x faster) on data transfer.
3) If you use a card reader, you can listen to tunes on the DAP during transfer.
