Ipod 5.5gen Installation Problem ("iPod could not be opened", Windows)

<< < (2/3) > >>

Eleven13:
Just to update:

I tried a manual install, extracted the firmware to my folder, and then tried the ipod patcher and when it came up it said:

[INFO] Scanning disk devices...
[ERR]: No ipods found, aborting
[ERR] Please connect your ipod and ensure it is in disk mode
[ERR]: Please refer to the Rockbox manual if you continue to have problems

I'm really at a loss now, the ipod was in disk mode (though the "do not disconnect" screen kept flashing regardless) so I have no idea what to try now.

saratoga:
Does the Apple firmware work normally on the ipod?  I suppose you could try restoring it with itunes.

Eleven13:
To be honest I'm not sure, I bought it solely for the purpose of rockboxing it so I haven't put any music on it at all yet. I will try restoring via Itunes, anything else I could try if that doesn't work? Should the Ipod say "do not disconnect" the entire time its connected to the PC?

saratoga:
Yes that message is normal IIRC.  But the Apple firmware must be fully functional or you will not be able to install.

Eleven13:
Okay thanks, so I restored the Ipod and the problem is still there, could it be that some program is trying to access the ipod which is not allowing the installer in?

Or does it have something to do with it being unable to detect a mountpoint? (even though the right one is set after that message appears?)
