Best quality music, no excuses!
« on: March 13, 2014, 02:07:52 PM »
Okay now! I have a 4Gb Clip Zip, a pair of S4-II earbuds, a 32Gb (A cheap Class 4) MSD memory card and a smile. I love this setup. It sounds fantastic for a $17 player and $14 earbuds. (Amazon).

My settings are bass and treb' one tick up and dithering on. That's it. To my ears that sounds best. I run the latest dev' build of Rockbox. The key to having a fun experience is mostly the quality of your music files. Having a larger MSD card and using the FLAC file format and NOT crappy sounding MP3 format is crucial. No amount of $$ or tech magic will make a 128 MP3 sound any good. Where do you get FLAC files? You "rip" your own CD's to FLAC with Exact Audio Copy, or you visit The Pirate Bay. No comment on the legality of that option.

I use the internal memory of my player for audio books and the memory card for music. I use the "clock" personality to replace my watch and FM radio presets for local news. I use the voice feature so I don't have to see the menus to use them. I get ~ 10 hours of use per recharge.

If you put in a bit of effort this machine can be a real Swiss army knife of tech entertainment and you'll pity the Apple drones with white earbuds knowing how bad they sound compared to your player.

Enjoy!
