What I Want To Do With Rockbox
bbildman:
Hello, I have a Sansa Clip Zip, the reason I am trying to use Rockbox is that the hardware control on the Sansa is broken - rockbox will enable me to bypass that and use the software volume controls. I have an 8Gb micro card installed as well as the internal memory of about 4 Gbs
My use of the Sansa is limited to simply have ALL the music files queued in the Music "playlist" - and all the Audiobooks separated from them. Normall I would be listening to music files, and then at times go almost directly to the Audiobook section and play the topmost audiobook that I was reading. When shutting down the Sansa, it would always remember where I left off in the Audiobook so I could go there immediately, and it also remembered where I was in the music file list.
I have some 1500 files on the Sansa, all music except for about 20 Audiobooks. I would like to replicate as well as possible the original firmware with Rockbox...is there a way to do this.
Also I want ALL my files available for Rockbox to use, this would include the microdisk as well as the Sansa memory
Can anyone with more knowledge of the RB help me, thanks

Use the Database only for the folders with the music (Settings -> General Settings -> Database -> Select dir....),
and let the filebrowser start directly at you Audiobook Directory (Files -> Your Audiobook Folder -> Hold the select button -> Start File Browser here).
I use this settings for my wife :)

Thanks for the note, if I use the database for my music files, how do I manage to put all these in a playlist...then start with the first song in the first directory and have Rockbox play the next song when the current one finishes...and also go into the first song of the next album directory without me pushing any buttons (all my albums are in separate directories in a MUSIC folder) And then when I turn the Sansa off I want Rockbox to remember where I was in the playlist queue, and also in the audiobook I am reading (which is how the Sansa firmware automatically does)??
mrfritzle:
The Music Database Playing needs a bit id-tagging from your side to generate the list you need, with one of the dynamic database scripts
....if none is ok for you can do your own.
Everything else is the Bookmarking Option (General Settings)
....and maybe thing about buying a new sansa clip.
It will be cheaper & faster, than emulating the original software, which satisfied you ;)

Again thanks for the reply, one more query...after going through all the settings and configuring them, I seem to have lost the ability to click L or R and have Rockbox take me to the next or previous song. Not sure what I did wrong, it works when I boot into the Sansa firmware.
:( Sorry to bother you.
