5th Gen iPod Video Locks up (Rockbox Version 3.13)
pzasso:
Hello,
I am having an issue with a 5th Gen 30GB model iPod Video. First I would like to say that Rockbox is great and I have been using it for years on various MP3 players. As for my iPod Video, Rockbox works fine out of the box, prior to me converting it to an SD card from the following link.
http://www.tarkan.info/20121226/tutorials/ipod-and-sdhc-sdxc-cards
Once I finished the modification, I did a restore via iTunes and ran the stock Apple firmware for about a month and did not have any issues. Most of my music is either .mp3 or .m4a format. When I installed Rockbox, the install went smooth and I was able to load all of my music onto the iPod. I did have some USB errors along the way, and I read where some SD cards have a bad MBR, so I went through the procedure of pulling out the SD card and putting it into an SDXC capable device and formatting the card FAT32 and re-writing the MBR. This didn't help, but just booting the iPod into disk mode seem to work fine as a work around.
Although I could get the music on the iPod and it would play, I found that it would lock up hard shortly into the second track it played. I would have to do a hard reset to recover. This would happen whether I played the files directly or via the database. The music played fine when it played and there was no skipping or any hint of an issue before the lock up.
Now here is the weird part, or at least weird to me. If I turn on the iPod and go to database, artist, all tracks, and just select the first track, it will inventory all 3000+ songs I have loaded on the iPod and then begin to play. It will play all day long without locking up. I can skip ahead, pause, resume without any issues at all. It seems very stable. But if I go into the database and select a single artist and a single album and start to play it, it won't get very far into the second song and it will lock up. Sometimes I see the following error or close to this.
Data abort at 4000D2A4 (0)
pc: 4000D2A4 SD:40002B78
bt end
That's what I am seeing thus far. I will continue to play with it and see what else I can document. By the way I have two different 30GB iPod Videos both of which have been modified with 128GB SD cards and they are both behaving exactly the same way. They have two different brand and speed SD cards as well, yet same lock up condition.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Paul, did you try a daily build ?
http://build.rockbox.org/data/rockbox-ipodvideo.zip
pzasso:
Not yet. I was trying to stick with the stable release, but I will give the latest build a try and let you know how it goes.
Thanks,

pzasso:
Ok downloaded the latest build and it crashes less than 30 seconds into the first song with the following error:
Data abort at 4000D544 (0)
pc: 4000D544 SD:40002B70
bt end

Did you reset all setting ? Like Database to RAM, Auto Update Database, etc..
Note: CPU isn't fast at 5th & RAM is only 32 MB
