Sansa Fuze+ boot/potential charging issue.
« on: March 09, 2014, 09:56:09 PM »
Hello,

I'm currently having issues with this Sansa Fuze+. The screen turns on showing that the usb is connected, but it doesn't seem to be charging the device. It doesn't boot into either rockbox or the OF, but I do have access to the device's internal storage. On the screen, it does mention it's in some bootloader usb mode.

I've tried to reload the firmware updater, but it doesn't seem to initialize the updater when it turns on.

Is there a method of recovering the device from this issue?

What do you mean boot into Rockbox or the OF?  Explain what happens.

The device will not turn on with the power button, but it shows some signs of life when connected to a computer. It doesn't seem to charge the device in this low level bootloader state either.

Normally, when I connect my Rockbox devices to a computer, it would either boot into the original firmware  and use the original firmware to transfer files (My original Sansa Fuze does this) or it would first load up Rockbox (with the splashscreen and skin and wps) and enable file trasnfer or other connectivity functions (my e280 and philips 1620 does this).

I believe the Fuze + has booted up the Rockbox firmware when it is connected to a computer, but it failed to do so recently. I attempted to boot up the original firmware as a potential remedy to the no charge issue, but it seems to be just boot up some low level state that allows access to the internal storage only through the computer.

You should be able to recover from this situation. Catch pamaury on IRC.

Something like that has happened to me a month or two ago. The battery was probably too drained and it was not possible to boot to RB, which occured to me few times in past, but it was not possible to boot even to OF (which always helped in the state of full battery discharge, in past).

I managed to revive Fuze+ somehow. I am not sure how exactly. :-(

I conected it to PC USB. Maybe tried to start OF or not. Do not remember.  It was not possible as far as I remember. The display of Fuze+ shoved also voltage of battery and it sort of went up and down (just slightly, probably due to inaccuracy of measurement at low voltages). Anyway after say 10 minutes it might chargĂ© a bit...

I probably disconected it from PC and connected again trying to start OF and now it was possible.

Sorry, I cannot describe it more precisely. It is some time ago and I randomly kept trying different things. I might forgot some of the steps or the order of steps might be slightly different...

Hope, it helps.

Thanks for the head's up monoid. I tried to give chance a shot again, but it seems to be pretty futile. I tried both USB and data connection and just USB power. USB and data kept the screen on telling me it's in USB mode, while USB power only tried to boot the device into the firmware, but would immediately shut off right after.

Thanks wodz. I'll try to catch pamaury on IRC later tomorrow.

Hi,
your bootloader is probably old which explains why it doesn't charge. You can try to boot to the OF to charge: from power off state, hold volume down and plug USB (keep holding a second or two). It should boot to the OF and recharge. If it does not, then catch me on IRC for a recovery procedure.

Sorry for the late response. Thanks pamaury. It's working again.

At first, holding down the power button didn't work for the first few seconds, so I gave up on it for a while. I just tried it out today again, but this time, I was a little more patient with the holding of the volume button (about 30-60 seconds) and it booted the original firmware again. There were no bootloader screens while I was doing this. I'll be loading the new bootloader ASAP.

Thanks again everyone.
