Database hangs at "building database"
(1/1)
luisdent:
I have been trying to rebuild/initialize the database on my fuze v2 and it never gets past "building database". The device isn't frozen, as I can back out and navigate around, but when I go back to database it is still at that progress bar and never passes it even if I wait for hours.
I thought perhaps it was music I put on recently that is causing the problem, but I can't figure out what it might be. All of my music files are the same formate and contain the same type of art. I tried updating or reinstalling the firmware, but didn't make a difference. As it is, I can't use the database feature, which is making the player practically useless for finding music. Anyone have an idea how to resolve this?

This is a common problem, usually due to corrupted file system or a file with highly corrupted tags that freezes the parser. Under debug you can enable logging of the database build, which should at least let you know what its doing while you're waiting. If it stops at one specific file, checking its tags might help. If its random files, I would suspect a corrupt file system.

Debug seems to show it getting stuck on apple files like .fseventsd and .spotlight files. I checked and those are apple generated files so I deleted them, but it keeps getting stuck anyway without specific files mentioned. Is there a way to wipe the fuze and start from scratch? I forced rebooted the "hard reset" and uninstalled via the rockbox utility, but even though it said it was successful rockbox was still there after another reboot... ?
luisdent:
I've deleted my .rockbox folder and it forced me to reload it. I'll see how it goes.
