Multiple listing of same song within a given album

I was unaware that "rebuilding" and "initializing" the database were synonymous.  I have tried the latter as well as "updating" several times with no luck.  I took rebuilding to mean deleting and re-synching the entire database.  I wasn't trying to be snarky.

One sure fire way to located the offending duplicates is to play them.  While each track is playing long press centre button and choose "show track info" and read the "path" entry at the bottom of the list.

Take close note of the location of the first file.  Now press "left" or "play" to return to the WPS and skip to the next identical track and repeat the process.

The idea is that there is a likelihood that somehow duplicate files got placed in separate places within your memory.

On devices with 2 forms of memory such as these Sansa players the easiest mistake is to copy the same album to both the SD card and the internal memory.

In other rare cases I have seen accidental drag and drops creates copies of album inside folders of unrelated albums.

If you manage to find duplicates files, delete them as you see fit then simply "update" the database.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the suggestion.  However, I've checked for instances of duplicates in both drives and haven't found any.  Would've been really be boneheaded of me to save the same song 3 times, which I was fairly certain didn't happen.
