transferring playlists from pc
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:30:02 PM »
First, I am NOT a computer or audio geek.  All I want to do is be able to listen to music in the order I want on my SanDisk Clip Zip.  I have put together playlists using Media Monkey and using Windows Media Player.  When I sync to the Clip Zip, the playlists don't come over.  I HAVE noticed that when I create playlists on Media Monkey, the path shows C:/ and even I know that path isn't gonna show up on an MP3 player.  While I haven't tried to do so yet, my sense is that if I connect my sandisk and create the playlist on the E:/ drive, it's gonna be the same thing.  I'm going to try now, but thought I'd see if there's something I'm missing.

I've tried to research this on these forums, and have found a couple of posts - but I don't understand the responses.

Thanks.

Rockbox will interpret any drive letter as the current drive the playlist is saved on, so provided the path is correct aside from the drive letter everything will just work.

ok - then why can't I find the playlists on the player?  I've looked in the playlist catalogue and they are NOT there....

Playlists are files that you can copy to the player.  If you copy one over and then browse to the location where you put it, are you saying that you don't see it?

I've been using sync.  Is that different?

ok - I have the player connected to the pc - and I can see the playlists under "folders".  How do I get them to the playlist catalogue?

Is that a Media Monkey feature?  If so, you may want to ask them how it works.

The Playlist Catalogue was committed without any documentation whatsoever (grrrrrr, you know who you are. ;)). So without knowing what it actually does its natural to assume that any and all playlists on the device will appear there, similar to our Database (if enabled) feature with media files. However, this is not the case (as you have found).

Since we don't scan for playlists (which, I guess, is a possibility), the Playlist Catalogue only handles playlists that were created on the device itself, using Rockbox. By default, this will be /.rockbox/Playlists (from memory), but the user can set the Playlist Catalogue directory to whichever directory their heart may desire via the File Browser context menu.

I hope this addresses your issue.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
