Sansa Clip+ - Cannot find reliable playlist manager for files on microSD

(1/1)

MindNarrative:
I bought a 4GB Clip+ with the expandable microSD slot, and all my music is on my 16GB card. Pretty much immediately Rockboxed it. Apparently, and not counting sorting by folders, "sort by artist as ID-tagged on files" isn't an option on the system itself (unless I'm wrong, please correct me if I am), and that's what I want to do. I also want to copy a song on the playlist and paste it at the top, after the playlist is ordered by artist.

Things I've tried:

1. MediaMonkey. Solid interface, but I tried to open a playlist to edit, and it was "reading files..." for 26 minutes before I gave up on it. Reading 1000-ish songs shouldn't take that long.

2. SansaManager and Playlist Creator 3.6.2 disallow access to external files and mark them as "nonexistent," respectively. iTunes doesn't read a single thing, either.

3. Searched for a Rockbox-specific music/playlist manager, but either there's nothing or I don't know what I'm looking for.

4. VLC playlists. This works but it's a long and annoying process because VLC's formatting is different than Rockbox/Clip+. First I have to drag/drop all the files from microSD to the playlist, reorder, save; then I have to open it in Notepad++ and run a find/replace to delete every other line; then, because sometimes directories are given an extra line, I have to go through the list and fix them individually; then find/replace until fixed, then I have to do 2-3 more find/replaces on directory formatting before finally getting it to work. It functions, but it's annoying, and it still doesn't read ID tags.

4a. (side question) Is there a way to automatically save VLC playlists using custom formatting?

saratoga:
The database let's you sort and view files by tag.
