Sansa Clip+ 2GB, ROCKBOX serious issue, player semi-bricked?
wsekund5:
Hello guys,
To make it short, I have a similar (but not identical) issue to the one of SchebbARN, who described his problem here:
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=42976.0
Brief description of my problem:
Yesterday, Clip suddenly froze during listening to a FLAC file stored on a 32GB microSD card (no audio files stored in Clip's internal memory).
1. I kept the power ON/OFF button pushed for 1 minute to turn it off. When I turned it on again, ROCKBOX logo appeared along with the message: "Loading firmware. File not found". After 10 seconds, the message "Plug USB cable" appeared. After plugging it in "Bootloader USB mode" message showed up. When I unplugged it after 5 minutes, I saw "File not found" on the screen and another request to plug USB cable. That's it.
2. When I turned it on and tried to dual boot by holding LEFT button, Sansa logo appeared and after about 30 seconds the message "Not enough space for music DB. Please free 90 MB". And the player automatically turned itself off.
3. The same thing happens when I hold HOME button while turning the Clip on.
Point 2 & 3 - the same thing goes on with the player plugged in with a USB cable and unplugged.
I can't dual boot to its original firmware, the player is not recognized by Windows 7/8/8.1 as the message "Connecting" does not show up as it normally used to before it froze yesterday. The device has been always safely removed from Windows.
IMPORTANT REMARK: I never changed USB connection type from MTP to MSC. Just unpacked the player when I got it a week ago, and installed RockBox on it without giving it a deeper thought. Before that, I had seen Rockbox working on my friend's Clip and it seemed fine to me.
Should I just throw it to the bin or something can be done to restore it to its factory settings or remove RockBox to install it again?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't think the issue you have is related to the one in that thread you linked. It sounds like the file system is badly enough corrupted that neither firmware can successfully boot. This may be helpful:

saratoga,
Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me :-\ I turn on the player with either a LEFT button or HOME button held (while it's being plugged in). As soon as "SANSA" appears on the screen, I disconnect it. Then the same message shows up: "Not enough space for music DB. Please free 90 MB". Any other way to force Clip+ to boot to its original firmware or this was the last resort solution?
How come the file system became corrupted so badly "just like that"?
saratoga:
I would keep trying it, as the timing is quite precise.
Otherwise, you can also try the rockbox bootloader USB mode (hold select then insert the USB cable while the player is off), which in theory does not need a working filesystem.

saratoga,
How precise is the timing? Or it's just a matter of being lucky? I've already tried it about 50 times and never even once managed to get past the Database Refresh :-[
As far as the RockBox bootloader mode method: the message "Loading firmware. File not found" appears for about 10-15 seconds" and then "Bootloader USB mode". Windows still does not recognize the device and nothing else happens. When I disconnect it, "File not found" appears and then "Plug USB cable" When I plug it in again, it says "Bootloader USB mode".
Any other ideas?
