Unable To Play WMA Files
« on: January 25, 2014, 03:27:16 AM »
I have installed the latest Rockbox on my iRiver H-140, which was using firmware 1.66. The automatic installation worked fine, but now I can't play any WMA files. Switching back to the original firmware, these files play perfectly. Any suggestion?

Do they have any form of DRM?

What version of Rockbox? (Latest could mean lots of things)

The version of Rockbox utility I am using is: 1.4.0
None of the files have DRM, they were all ripped from original CDs, and, as I mentioned, the iRiver original firmware plays them perfectly. The player is an iHP-140 using version 1.66 U original firmware. Any suggestions?

The version of Rockbox Utility is not relevant, the version of Rockbox is. Go to System / Rockbox Info and look for the Version: line.

Just because you ripped them doesn't mean they don't have DRM. Post a link to one of the files and I'll look at it.

The version of Rockbox is: 3.13
None of the files have DRM. Many are transcriptions of my analogue vinyl discs that I've made, others are CDs I've mastered of my own performances.

At this point you have two options:

1)  Post a link to one of the files, and then I'll look at it and if its something simple maybe I can tell you how to fix it
2)  Use the original firmware to play these files

OK, I'll use the original firmware as all the files are WMA, and there's now 13Gb, so it would be quite a task to re-code them into something acceptable. Pity that. As a programmer myself I really do appreciate all the reverse-engineering and hard work that went into this project, but, in the end, if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. Thanks anyway.

As a programmer you should know that if you are not able to reproduce the bug there is little you can do about. Saratoga asked you if you can provide access to the file that fails. Thats how you can contribute to the project really.

WMA does work with everything I've ever tried it with.  Thus there must be something interesting about your files.  However without an example of a file that fails it is impossible to see what is wrong and fix it.

Yes, you are quite right, without an example, it's impossible to fix. If you send me an email address, I'll upload an example. I can't post one on this website, as the file sizes are too big, and I don't have website of my own.

Is it possible the WMAs are in lossless?

Does RB support lossless WMA now?
