Sometimes returns with "Cleared"
« on: June 08, 2006, 04:37:14 PM »
I have a 1GB Nano. I'm using the Brushed Aluminum theme (if it matters). I have the auto shut-off enabled (previously set to 1 min, now set to 3 min). I just upgraded to 060608. Sometimes, but not every time, when I hit the center button to wake up the nano, it boots Rockbox and says "[CLEARED]". All my settings data is gone (i.e. theme, shuffle, &c.). So I started saving .cfg files to save time. It also sometimes happens when I use the long hold on [PLAY] to shut down the iPod.

Unfortunately it does not appear to be linked to the format of music.

I may have noticed a slight correlation to the amount of time in the sleep. That is, the shorter it has been "asleep" the less likely the data will be there when I restart.

Any ideas? Thanks!

you have your hold button on when you turned it on. if you boot your ipod with the hold switch on, it will reset your settings. remember to switch your hold switch to off when you turn your ipod on.

You can't turn on the iPod by pressing a button if Hold is on though.

So you're saying, turn it on, and then wait until Rockbox has finished booting (and playback has begun) before turning on the hold?

Seeing as switching on hold during the boot is _supposed_ to clear the settings, yes.

Sorry, I must have missed that feature. Now I'll be more aware of my hold switch. Thanks for the quick reply.

If there's something I can do to help with debugging (anything from test firmwares to grammar work in the docs), please don't hesitate to PM me. I'll probably stop by on IRC soon (after things slow down a little more around here.

Thanks for working on such a useful and amazing project!

When you plug your ipod to the pc, if hold is on, then it will clear your settings too. This happened to me a lot of times, and I could never imagine that it was the hold who was causing this issue. IMHO this should be changed, at least when charging from the usb.

Ok, I have spotted the problem:

When I connect the ipod to the usb, it enters into disk mode. When I unplug it, 3 different things can happen:
  - It stays in disk mode, showing the text "OK to disconnect" (when it's already disconnected)
  - A strange battery icon with an exclamation mark appears. I have to do a hard reset (menu+select) to reboot into rockbox.
  - It reboots to rockbox, and if the hold button was on, it clears the settings.

Is this expected to happen?
