iPod 5th Gen 60gb problem/question

Hi all,

I've had Rockbox on my iPod practically since I bought it 4 or 5 years ago, previously having Rockbox on an old iHP-120 player.  Rockbox has been great usually, with one or two small issues, that can be quickly fixed.  So here's my problem:

Last week, I dropped my iPod on the pavement for about the 400th time.  It didn't outwardly break, but when I got home, and turned it off, the player turned itself back on.  Tried it again, and it reset itself again.  I plugged it into my computer, ejected it, and was able to turn itself off for about 15 seconds.  It then booted into Diagnostic mode, and wanted me to run through some tests (first time I ever saw this).  I ran through them, and it said it was fine, but when it went back to Rockbox (or even normal Apple firmware), when I would shut it off, it would turn itself back on.

After googling a bit, I saw some people had this problem did a full scan on Windows to fix bad sectors/repair them.  I tried that, and it did work actually, the iPod would turn off, and stay turned off.  However, it's now doing the same problem again, and the repair scan isn't working.

So, I assume my iPod's hard drive is toast.  Here is my question, it is a 60gb Black 5th gen iPod, model number:  MA147LL (no /A for some reason).  Aside from just getting a straight 60gb replacement drive, what are my options for upgrading it?  The drive I have now only has like 1.5gb free, so a new, higher storage drive is preferred, but I'm not sure what Rockbox, the Apple firmware (if I need to use it), or the Ipod's case will actually accept.  Could I slot in a MK8025GAL (80gb) drive, or a MK1011GAH (100gb drive), or even a MK1231GA (120gb) drive?  Any help would be appreciated.

I should stress two things:  1.  It has the same back cover as the day I bought it, and unless the guy I got it from replaced it, I assume it's the normal one.  And 2.  This is a 5th Gen ipod only, not a 5.5gen.  I think that does limit me on some drives, but I'm not sure which.

Replacing the hard drive with a CF card might be an interesting option for you as well. See http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CFModGuide and http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/HardDriveReplacement -- less moving parts in a player is usually a good thing :)

My biggest concern with that is probably size vs. price at the moment.  I'd want at least a 64gb card (either a conventional CF card or in a SD card adapter) to use and those can be kind of pricey, depending on whether you go with a good brand, or some Chinese knockoff.
