Data abort at 0049144 & Random freezing

<< < (2/3) > >>

f0x:
Now it changed (last 10 days builds), the 'Data abort' message doesn't appear, but the screen and whole iPod 'only' freezes -> restart. The freeze is random, doesn't matter how long it plays. It can be 3 minutes, it can be even 70 minutes.

Now some details:

codec: MP3 - lame (VBR, CBR-128,256,320,...)
EQ and crosfeed disabled
tagcache disabled
as I said, freezing is random, I can't reproduce it on any song

P.S. sorry for the late response

Dirk:
Hi There,

i'm using Rockbox now since a few weeks. Same problem here. I installed the version from rockbox-ipod4gray-20060715.zip, what can be found at the download page und my iPod (4th generation, 20 gb).

It does not matter, what file im playing. Sometimes i get a data abort, sometime it only freezes. I can't shut the iPod down via holding play, i have to reboot the iPod via holding Menu+Select.

Sometimes this error occours three times within 20 minutes, sometimes it occours only one time within a few days.

The first time, my iPod didn't respod to my commands, was after recharging the battery over the night. It was freezed. The same day was the first day, i got the first data abort.

I'm using crossfade (gapless replay).

I think it might be helpful to put together a testing config that folks can load so that testing is (more) uniform.  Maybe even put together a simple wps (no peak meters, etc).  Any ideas?

Also, I think part of the problem is that most of us dumbass users don't have a clue what information is useful to the developers.

Off the top of my head, I'd think these were important:

Build (BTW: I wish a date/time stamp could be incorporated into the filename generated by make zip)
Codec
Bitrate
Playback settings (Crossfade, etc.)
Playback mode (shuffle, repeat song, etc.)
File view (ID3 via tagcache or file browser)
Sound settings (EQ, etc.)

Help us help you!!!

Llorean:
Actually, there's absolutely no need for a testing config, because if you go to Manage Settings, and choose to reset the settings, then shut down and boot up your player, you have the default settings loaded.

Downside: Peakmeters on the WPS.

There is a link in my signature that leads to a rather lengthy post where I'm perhaps a bit long-winded and repeat a few things, but it explains the kinds of information we want most from testers, as well as going into why we need some of it, and why it can be really next to impossible for us to fix bugs without it sometimes.

dyrtyrice:
the bottom line is this is still an issue, and has not been fixed and barely acknowledged, it happened as soon as I upgraded and is a bug within the official release. Clearing settings does not help whatsoever, I am going to try downloading an older version of rockbox and swap out of the mp3 codec, but I doubt this will work either. Is rockbox dead or something or has there been an official fix yet?
