H120 Plugin power problem with a mic preamp
« on: January 14, 2014, 09:13:28 AM »
Hi to all rockboxers,
I just bought a nice microphone preamp I'd like to use with my H120 and H320 rockboxed recorders.
The preamp is delivering line level signal.
The connection is simple : line output (3,5 jack from the preamp) to line input (3,5 jack into the H120).

My problem is that these recorders are always providing around 3V Plug In Power on this connector, in order to feed electret mics. There's no way to disable this tension. And I really don't know if my brand new (used second hand in fact) preamp will be ok with this.

Has somebody experienced problems with this kind of connection?
Is there an electronics master here, who could tell how a simple asymetrical line output will behave if it receives 3V DC?

Thanks a lot

and long live to Rockbox!
breezanil.

Although ideally it would be great to be able to disable the PIP, I used a preamp providing 9 v. PIP into an H120 a number of times and it made great recordings. Nobody on taperssection has ever reported a problem doing so either.

You can always cut DC with capacitor.
