Ah, looks like I have the 3rd generation, and am, according to the wiki, out of luck wrt rockbox support :(

Well, support is planned for 3rd gen. It's just not done yet, because we lost the person who was working on it.

Yup. He was working on it, then life got busy. He's still out there, and he could come back and do more, but I haven't seen him around IRC or anything lately.

mmm i know what gen ipod i have, but im curious if im able to install rockbox onto my third gen ipod....i dont feel like breaking it today, and this site never specifically says that i can (not that ive found) so any help is appreciated
