Boot loader that inverts the way rockbox works?
« on: June 02, 2006, 12:46:52 PM »
lol.

Congratz to all Devs workin wardly in this amazing project. ;D

But sadly find out that battery matters seam not to be a high priority concern to them. Just imagine... Runing as a primary firmware boot, RockBox will drain your batterys life in a short life period...

That's why I have this request... Is there any bootloader that runs original firmware first... or maybe  should I ask like you see it... A request for "not so enthusiastic iPod Video owners"

Quote:
>> "For not so enthusiastic iPod Photo/Color owners, MarcusBrito created a boot loader that inverts the way rockbox works: it will load the original firmeware by default, and only load Rockbox if the user keeps MENU pressed while booting." <<

And guys, plz... Don't call us RockBox HATERS... :-[ We install the software gladly because we believe that OpenSource will help to increase the products posibilities... ;)

The quote that you copied into your posts answers your question.  I'm not exactly sure what else you're asking.

You can boot into it by jsut holding down menu when it boots up.

And personally, I think battery lfie should be a concern.

 ???
Well, it's easy to tell... The original installation of RockBox will make the iPod Video boot with by default with RockBox...

I've been lookin for the oposite...

Just like MarcusBrito did with his bootloader BIN for >>>iPod Photo/Color<<<

I think this is the 5G ipod forum... So... The quote I copied into the posts doesn't answer my  question. It's a iPod Photo/Color solution!!!

:-\ Maybe I don't explain my self in the right way....

I found this REQUEST... and say's what I mean....

 FS#5088 — better booting
Attached to Project— Rockbox
Opened by - Tuesday, 11 April 2006, 02:07AM

I think it would be much better to boot into the Apple OS as default and to boot into Rockbox you have to hold the hold-"button".
Or maybe Rockbox can be default but holding the Menu button is not that easy as holding "Hold" because often I press it to late. So with hold it would be much easier!
So pls developer think about this solution ;-)

Or at least give comments

if it really doesn't respond anymore you could try to reformat the ipod by using the hp usb storage format tool:
http://www.pctipp.ch/library/actions/pre_download.asp?id=7595

it worked for me several times when I bricked my ipod nano while trying to install ipodlinux.

just reformat the ipod using this tool, then reinstall the apple firmware with the firmware updater. and then start from scratch installing rockbox again.
