problem using: dd if=my_sw.bin of=/dev/disk1 oseek=63
« on: June 01, 2006, 08:41:03 PM »
Hi everyone! Im new to rockbox and Im tryin to install it right now. I am using mac os x tiger latest update. a windows formated (2006/01/10) 5g video ipod. I went thru the instruction to install in the wiki, now I enter the last command in order to have the bootloader installed wich is:
dd if=my_sw.bin of=/dev/disk1 oseek=63

and I get this error:
resource busy

Ive searched the forums but didnt find anyting related to this, any idea? I used a precompiled version of loader.bin also provided in the wiki.
thanks everyone for this great firmware - cant wait to have it running on my own ipod.
thanks in advance for help

I'm not quite sure if I'm correct, as I don't use Mac Os X. But,
my guess would be that something is already accessing your iPod...
Possibly... iTunes? I'm not sure, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Which instructions are you following? http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallationFromMacOSX doesn't instruct you to run that command, and I'm pretty sure that's the recommended way of installing Rockbox on an Ipod.

Out of curiosity, if you were following instructions from the iPodLinux wiki, why did you come here to ask for help?

But if the instructions were at the iPodLinux wiki, what about it made you think it was Rockbox, is kinda what I meant?

Because if their wiki is misleading, it needs to be fixed.

Just for the record, that error is normally because the ipod is still "mounted" in Mac OS - meaning that Mac OS has taken control of the disk and is preventing you from modifying its contents directly.

The part of the installation instructions that tell you how to "unmount" your ipod is here:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallationFromMacOSX#b_Find_your_iPod

llorean: it's my error - i clicked on a link (on the rockbox mac os x installation page) that pointed to Loader2 of ipodlinux - from there I thot I still was on the rockbox installation instructions page -- i was too excited, i don't think the wiki is misleading.

Okay. Just making sure. You're not the first person who's been here asking for help with their instructions, and I don't imagine you're the last, so I was checking to see if maybe something needed to be done.
