Rockboxed Clip Zip freezes....

(1/1)

Vehemental:
Hello! This is my third Rockboxed Sansa. I've had a Clip+ , but the battery died, a Clip Zip that worked like a charm, but I lost it through a hole in my purse :'( , and this problem child....
I've rockboxed it with the 3.13 utility before putting any files on it. It always has a Sandisk 32 GB microSD on the slot, but I really don't remember if it had the card inserted when I installed Rockbox.
A white blinking screen appeared randomly, and then I had to press the power and middle (menu?) button for a looooooong time to be able to turn it off. When I restarted it and tried to resume the playback, I couldn't, and there appeared a black screen with some text I don't remember now. (something about playlist control)
Then, I reinstalled rockbox with the utility. It works better now. But it still hangs on the "now playing" screen, and I can't do anything but "power and middle" for a while, 'til it shuts down....
And sometimes appears a message "No .rockbox directory found" when I turn it on. And then it hangs, and... power and middle again....
But the former Clip Zip I had, where I even installed the unstable version, didn't ever had that kind of trouble...
Which can be the cause of those problems? Bad USB connection while rockboxing? (faulty USB ports and/or cable) Hardware failure? Hardware variations between different Clip Zips? Bugs? I don't know....
I think I will reinstall it for the third time... Really I don't want to use OF, as it sucks... ("updating database".... not being able to play one folder after another automatically without creating a playlist.... no, thanks!)

Hi, not sure if I can help, but I had a bricking problem with my new clip zip, too. I have been using a clip zip rockboxed for over a year, but I bought another recently and I had issues with it freezing, not building a database or skipping to the next track. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling several times, and I still had freezing issues. I then tried switching micro sd cards, which solved everything (so far). Originally, I was using an old 16gb Micro Center (generic brand) micro-sd (Class 10) card, which I had put music onto for the Clip Zip. All the freezes and glitches occurred with this card in it. Then I switched out the card, to a 32 gb Sandisk micro-sd (Class 4), which I had in my old Clip Zip, and everything works great now.

Either the generic brand card I was using is bad quality, or the player has issues reading from Class 10 micro-sd cards. Not sure which. I just bought another 32 gb Sandisk (Class 4) card, and it also works fine in the player.

So you might try using a different micro-sd card and see if that works.

Good luck!
