Skipping
« on: May 31, 2006, 06:14:52 PM »
Finally got rockbox working on my ipod video.

Seems to be some audio skipping on some, well, all of my music, there a fix for this?

Or something to be resolved in future releases?

Personally, rockbox is amazing, and if this issue were solved, it would be perfect.

well yeah "those 2 little meters at the bottm of a song that move"  ;D are peakmeters. they will cause the song to skip, so choose another theme. sorry i meant codec, not codes  :D.

Is there a way to just delete the code for the peakmeter.

yeah. just open up the wps file in a text editor, find the line that says %pm , and remove it.

it's in your .rockbox folder, then wps, then rockbox_default.wps, and open that up in a text editor.

This is what I get when i open it:

# Dummy file to allow Rockbox to reset to the default WPS config.
# Do not edit this file.  It's never actually loaded by Rockbox.

actually yeah, i forgot it's a replacement file  :D . I don't think you can edit the rockbox default, because, you need it to reset your settings and stuff, so it has to remain the same. so, sorry, i guess you'll have to just choose another theme if you don't want skipping.

The code for rockbox_default is in the Archos Recorder WPS gallery I believe. You can just copy and paste it into any new .txt file, save it as whatever.wps, and go. Remove the %pm from that code to remove the peakmeter.

Well, I'm using a modified version of the Black WPS, basically has everything removed but the song title, volume, progress bar, lock, battery, and thats about it.

I also replaced my .rockbox folders with new ones, a newer version that my browser didnt seem to know it clicked (wasnt higlighted that it has been clicked before) and it stopped all skipping!

Glad you resolved your issue.
Playing all my lame -v1/-v2 encoded mp3s and -q6 oggs I haven't had any skips yet during normal playback on my video or nano (meaning, I'm fine as long as I don't try to run any plugins at the same time).

Hello,

I have installed Rockbox on my iPod G5  3 days ago,
played a lot with all setting to prevent skipping and finally notice it cannot run high bitrate with a backdrop on in DEFAULT MODE, it improves with EQ settings but still skips 5-10 times a song.
having read a good amout of posting it seems the .bmp file does ask for too much resources yet on the backdrop setting. Am I wrong, or should I wait?

best,Priam

I just responded to your post in the other thread you started.  The backdrop .bmp should have little or nothing to do with skipping.

I don't know what you mean by "default mode."
