Smooth(almost) iPod Classic 160 (6thGen) installation

I installed rockbox using emcore, following the instructions there without a hitch in a minute. The problem was usb connection afterwards. I had the connection to charge but no data transfer due to no recognized driver. Then I searched the forum and followed an instruction saying "select 'rockbox fallback choice' from emcore's tools menu, connect to PC(now recognized as iPod Classic), delete .rockbox folder, re-extract rockbox-ipod-6g release to the root...voila...everything is perfect now...I copied iPod Video themes using the rockbox utility..they fit great as I assumed.
I wish the release had the dual boot option as I'm copy-pasting 148GB of music back to iPod right now and I don't know what to do about the huge playlists both in detail and quantity that I have on iTunes. I've found a playlist converter utility on utilities page but am not sure if it's gonna do its work..I'll see in 40 mins...

All 20000 songs are back on the iPod but it goes into a reboot loop when the database creation process reaches ~14000th song and only a reset stops it with difficulty...therefore no database use. USB connection to PC is quite buggy or unstable as mentioned. The playlist converters in useful tools section are not helpful as the main one needs dual boot ipod. I solved this issue by using iTunes export tool and creating the same path on the ipod as it is on my computer...then reediting every single playlist file on notepad to remove drive letter...
I guess the build really was not ready but it has so many functions that it was hard to resist the temptation.

Now, it's time to find a way to restore it back to an Apple iPod

edit: db problem was not a rockbox problem but a battery drainage problem as it was resolved when I re-initialized it while plugged in usb-charge mode. Two problems remain. 1- Displaying album cover while playing, which might be a theme problem(some of themes even lack battery indicator). I have jpegs both embedded in every audio file and every album folder. Retrotape theme seems to display them not on player display but on right half of the menu screen if you go back while playing. 2- usb data connection to pc. this is very serious and discouraging. I think there is a confliction with applemobiledeviceservice.exe process, just a guess. It responds differently when iTunes is on, when it is off, when I kill the process manually and then connect it, when uninstalling the failed usb drive from device manager...but a cocktail of those makes it work at one point. It sometimes display error installing "emcore debugger" so maybe it's an emcore problem but it is a big problem for me now. I hope to find the simple way to connect it properly

After so many freeze and usb connection issues(by the way, connecting after "full stop of ipod's hd" works) today I've decided to uninstall. I had to as I'm gonna give it apple to replace the battery anyway. emcore's uninstallation procedure requires: starting iTunes, connecting to pc, pressing menu+select for 12 seconds(it reboots emcore in 8 seconds or so, then after the left 4 seconds the screen goes black, at that moment you have to stop pressing, or it reboots again and you have to do it all over again) to make it recognizable as apple dfu device by your pc. If you apply these steps correctly iTunes is supposed to recover and download iPod's software for a new beginning...nope..it doesn't work that way. after dfu mode, pc either can't install dfu driver or recognize it as a freemyipod.org dfu device which won't trigger iTunes to recover it. Uninstalling iTunes, reinstalling it, installing older versions(in my case 9.2.1), trying other usb ports, uninstalling the driver via device manager, reseting ipod over and over again and trying everything step by step again....won't work! Solution: Just use another pc with internet connection and the latest iTunes installed!(older version doesn't work as it says it can't connect to ipod update server). iTunes on, ipod in dfu mode(12 secs)...iTunes first downloads a recovery part, then asks you to click on restore, then downloads ipod's latest software...."welcome to your new ipod"

I'm shocked to see that it's been 18 months since I've done this and more shockingly:
I replaced the battery myself a year ago(damaging the upper right corner of the screen during the process and I wanted to give RB a go today after reading a response on a forum that somebody was "certain" that RB does not work on thin160...wait a minute was I hallucinating then then?...installation took under a minute this time (what?). At this very moment it's building its 20000(14010...14070...) piece database. After spending a little time with the old itunes mp3's I will be transferring the flacs later today...

Was I too young last time?? ...a normal battery and the work around for the "DFU mode" makes a difference. It worked smoothly

Edit: ah, the build has been developed since then . very nice work. The only problem I've encountered so far is freezing...changing the theme while playing back is frowned upon ... I had to reset every time
