Rather the opposite. Since the backlight lights up all of the screen and the lcd is used to filter the light.
So if it's all black the backlight is on and all pixels are "on" blocking all light using max power.

Are the screens on the 4th and 5th gen ipods actually lcd screens?  I thought they were not, but now I'm doubting myself.
