Sansa Clip + Concern of firmware installation

Good evening everyone,
                                       I hae brought 3 of these models of which one for i, and other two for my son's.
I love the idea of making the sound louder on these and changing fonts etc BUT where do i start.
I am really concerned i may brick these device's.
I have read numerous threads and it all is mixed to how i see it and nothing clear for a dumbass like myself.
Bootloaders, firmwares, original firmwares, i am lost here.
I know this question as been asked before and i really love learning, but this seems a tad bit oer my head.

Seems i posted in wrong section lol.
I managed to install rockbox after updating original firmware to what i think is the latest, please correct me if i am wrong 01.02.18F.
Sometimes i get the player just freezing during playing a track and i have to reset.
Also when i come to turn the player on after no been used for even an hour, i have to reset it and hold power button for 20 seconds, then release button, then again press power button on which it then boots.
This is a right pain.
Is their a fix to overcome this as to why teh player will not boot straight away as it should.
