Sansa Clip+:Disconnects whilst transferring files
« on: December 15, 2013, 08:28:35 PM »
I have a Sansa Clip+, it has Rockbox 3.13 on it. I have a microSD card in it and recently the USB connection keeps getting disconnected whilst transferring files onto the card and the screen of the Clip+ freezes with the USB picture, which requires me to hold the power button down to shut it off. It does not appear to happen when I'm transferring files onto the Clip+ itself. Have only had it for a couple of weeks.

I would try using the sandisk firmware and see if that works.

Much better still, use an external adapter to transfer to/from the Micro SD card; only use the Clip's USB for the internal storage.  The external adapter will also be WAY WAY FASTER than the clip can load/store from Micro SD.  And the external USB Micro SD adapters are dirt cheap - often they just come free with the cards...

@saratoga: I don't think there was an issue with disconnections when I was using the original firmware. I'm also noticing now that a few files are 'incomplete' (they end too soon or skip) - I think those were transferred after I installed Rockbox.

@toehser: Thanks I'll look into that

I have the Clip Zip with RB 3.13 and I experience a similar issue, i.e. when I connect to a USB port, Windows detects the player and displays the Explorer application for a few seconds, then it un-detects the player. So, I can only charge the battery, but I can no longer add or delete files if I connect in RB mode. That problem started a few days ago when I connected the player while pressing the power button. Is there anyway to solve this besides un-installing RB and installing it again?

I still can copy files using the original firmware thought.

No, if rockbox usb mode doesn't work on your PC, you'll have to use the sandisk USB mode.

It was working for more than a year and then just stopped working. Is there really no other solution than use the SanDisk USB mode?

For those who may experience the same problem than me: I've updated RB with the stable release code - the player is now detected correctly by the OS and stays connected.

I think I would try plugging it into a different PC, see if it is really a Rockbox problem or an OS problem with the Windows configuration, if you haven't done that already.

I had the same issue on my desktop, but as I mentioned in my message above, updating with the stable code version has solved the problem.

On 3.13 sometimes i have this issue, when connected to linux box with via chipset.
I suspect some problem with sd card, it pauses sometimes while transfering data or formatting.
32gb 10class.
But i don't remeber this when transfer data on win7 pc with intel atom.

Hi there,

I'm having the same issue; a clip plus running V3.13 and it will randomly disconnect while copying files.

I'm unsure what you mean by using the Sandisk firmware USB mode. Do you mean booting to the original clip plus firmware and then copying? I don't really want to do that as the old firmware mangles the file and folder names when indexing the media so it's very hard to know what's been copied.

To Nitreb, what stable code version are you talking about? I thought V3.13 was the latest stable code version?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

ianc

The Sandisk firmware can also use MSC, just like Rockbox.  If all else fails, you can use that.

I suspect he means he updated from 3.13 to the current development build (although his post is a little unclear).
