Trouble installing boot loader
quintell:
When trying to find the drive number using ipodpatcher N regardless of the number I use I always get the same response (with the relevant drive number)
[INFO] Reading partition table from \\.\PhysicalDrive1
Error opening disk: The system cannot find the file specified.
I'm running windows 98se and could not find anywhere that said this was not compatiable. I'm using an 4g Ipod Colour. And it is shown in explorer as drive D
Any advice?

are you logged on as admin?
Jon_:
There might be possibilities. Like stated above make sure your logged on your computer as an administrator.
Plug your ipod into a different USB or FIREWIRE port.
Make sure your ipod has been booted into Disk Mode
If your problem still presists the only solution is to upgrade to windows 2000 and above.
Note: go to ipodlinux.org download the ipodlinux installer and use the installer to install the bootloader for you. Should be much faster.

>>ipodlinux installer v2.11 or v2.22b2 (not quite sure which one supports bootloader installation.
Corius:
My friend had this error ( i think) when i helped him install rockbox over msn, because i wasnt there, im not sure of the exact error message but it sounds the same, his ipod wasnt set to allow disk mode, so we set his pod to disk mode in iTunes, and then tried the ipod patcher again and it worked
hope this was some help :)
quintell:
You cant log in in win98 as admin unless your on a domain, so this is irellevant
As it is showing up as a drive and has the circle with the cross through it and saying donot dissconnect I assume this means it's in disk mode.
Because it's windows 98 I cannot get itunes for this computer.
Upgrading to 2k is not an option as this is not my computer.
I'll give the ipodlinux installer a go.
Any further advice would be appreciated
