Does it matter what version of the original firmware you use when installing Rockbox (Clip Zip)? In other words, does it become the firmware that the player uses when you don't use Rockbox, or is it only for Rockbox to use and doesn't change the original firmware?

On that note, does the original firmware version affect how Rockbox operates at all?

The former. It replaces whichever one is installed.

OK good to know, thanks. If I remember correctly I think the manual said "grab a firmware" as if the version didn't matter. Also on that note, please see second question I added while you were replying (Does the orig firmware version affect how Rockbox operates at all?).

It has no effect unless you boot into it.
