ipod 5.5G, Software EQ - Background noise
« on: November 23, 2013, 08:39:39 AM »
Firstly, how fantastic is rockbox?  It's rare in any facade of life to find something so close to perfection.  and for free?? :-)  Thank you so much to all involved.  It's been a pleasure for many years, starting with the iRiver H20, which is still kicking!

I have a rockboxed ipod 5G.

I have recently been making use of the software eq.

However, I have just now found that it is in fact the software eq that also was causing a fair bit of background noise/hum.

I typically play ogg / mp3 files ~220kb.  They are replaygained.  The software eq is used with -6db of pre-cut, and then generally the middle frequencies are cut, and the end ones might go up to 6db at the most, but generally a lot less, and frequently the low pass/shelf is in negative ~32hz.  I think all these things might be irrelevant, but thought I'd mention them as some background...

Any one else have this problem?  Any fix?  I am on the stable build 3.13 as at 2013/11/23.

If you post your EQ settings someone can probably give you advice.  Cut and paste from your config.cfg file is easiest.

Thanks for the reply.  Apologies for the delay in responding - I thought I'd get a notification (email) if someone replied...  Better check my settings...

It happens with all the several eq settings I have/had been using.  But here's the current info from config.cfg, and another from an eq file

eq precut: 60
eq low shelf filter: 22, 7, -20
eq peak filter 1: 74, 10, 45
eq peak filter 2: 115, 10, 5
eq peak filter 3: 250, 10, -10
eq peak filter 4: 500, 10, -15
eq peak filter 5: 1000, 10, -15
eq peak filter 6: 2000, 10, 5
eq peak filter 7: 4000, 10, 15
eq peak filter 8: 8220, 10, 25
eq high shelf filter: 16000, 7, 30

eq enabled: on
eq precut: 60
eq low shelf filter: 32, 7, 0
eq peak filter 1: 54, 10, 15
eq peak filter 2: 125, 10, 5
eq peak filter 3: 250, 10, -15
eq peak filter 4: 500, 10, -10
eq peak filter 5: 1000, 10, -15
eq peak filter 6: 2000, 10, 0
eq peak filter 7: 4000, 10, 10
eq peak filter 8: 8000, 10, 45
eq high shelf filter: 15990, 7, 60
