Sansa Fuze Plus Problems
(1/1)
RaldyV:
My Rockboxed Sansa Fuze Plus never turns on. So I charge it. Immediately I get sent to Bootloader USB Mode. It doesn't even say whether or not it's charging past that point. So I unplug it and sure enough it's stuck. So I turn it off and it doesn't turn back on. As someone who has almost 9500 songs on his player I want to either play my songs or atleast be able to Extract them to my comp, so I can put them in whatever player I get next year (and here's hoping I get an iPod Classic because the Sansa Fuze+ is starting to suck).

My immediate reaction is that there is something wrong with the battery.
You can test this by plugging the unit into a strictly charging only device, such as those USB wall chargers that come with phones.
If all is well, the boot loader should detect no USB host and boot directly into Rockbox. Once RB is running, disconnect the charging cable. If it powers off immediately, I'd be convinced it is a battery issue.
What does the device do if you attempted to power it up while holding the volume down key?
There are numerous other issues to explore but we'll need a plethora of more information before that can happen. Did it work before, what lead up to this failure, is the .rockbox folder preent and intact, etc.?
BTW, if the device enters USB mode while connected to a PC your songs are still intact and can, at the very least, be rescued for use on another device.
Finally, RB for Fuze+ is still in development and not stable, it would be premature to A:] pass judgement on it as of yet B:] rely on it as your only player option.

I would add, that if the Fuze+ goes off after removal of USB charger, next recomended step is to start Fuze+ in OF (using USB charger) and let it chargé for some time.
It has happened to me that Fuze+ to keep chargé, respectively the battery was discharged and it was not possible to chargé it in RB. It reseted after a minute or so and restarted afrer some time again and endlessly so on. I thought, the battery was dead or Fuze+ was somehow deffective.... But charging in OF resolved all problems.
I am not sure, but it seems to me that need to chargé in OF has already occured several times (2 or 3) to me. It might be unique to my device or there is some kind of ability of RB firmware to be improved. (I am very happy and satisfied with RB and this behaviour does not make me problems and if it randomly occures it has easy solution).
My guess is that the issue has something to do with discharging of battery under certain limit. In that case, IMO, the code of RB for Fuze+ responsible for charging fails to deliver battery charging.
metaphys:
I would recommend starting by charging with original firmware:
- press volume down button and keep it pressed.
- plug the USB
- wait for the original firmware charging screen to come up while keeping volume down pressed. (if your battery is really down this can take several minutes, so be patient)
once screen show up you can release the button and let your device charge for a while to get it out of the red zone
